How to clean a cloudy pool water quickly and easily
If your swimming pool is cloudy, there are a number of reasons that may have caused it. Cloudiness can result from many types of particles and contaminants in the water.
If you have a cloudy pool, here are some tips on how you can fix it.
Why is pool water cloudy?
Water clarity is very important in swimming pools. The clearer the water, the better it looks, and the easier it is to swim.
Clarity is affected by many factors, including:
- pH – too low or high pH can cause cloudiness
- Water temperature – warm water has more dissolved air than cold water, which will cause it to be more cloudy
- How much chlorine or bromine is in the water – high levels of either chemical can cause cloudiness
- Are there dirt, silt, and other contaminants that get into your pool
How to clean a cloudy pool water in 5 steps
1. Inspect Your Water Level
The first thing you should do is check the water level in your pool. If it is too low, it may expose the bottom of your pool liner to sunlight, which can cause algae growth.
More so, if leaves or other debris are on the bottom of the pool, this will also cause algae growth if not properly cleaned off.
2. Shock a Swimming Pool Water
You can quickly fix your cloudy swimming pool by shocking it.
Shock treatment is the process of adding chemicals to your water to kill and remove algae and bacteria from your water.
The following are some instructions on how to shock your swimming pool:
- Step 1: Add shock according to instructions on the product label. Some products require you to add 1 pound per 10,000 gallons of water, while others require you to add ¼ cup per 100 gallons of water.
- Step 2: Test chlorine and pH levels after shock treatment to ensure they have reached an acceptable level.
3. Run Your Pool Filter For 8 To 12 Hours Daily
The next thing you need to do is run your pool filter for 8 to 12 hours a day. It will keep your pool clean and clear, but it will also start to bring down the chlorine levels in the water.
Once you have done this, you can open up your pool and let it sit overnight (or longer). If you don’t have time for this step and want to get rid of the cloudiness immediately, then follow these steps:
4. Balance The pH Of Your Water
The pH of your pool water is an essential factor in determining the overall health of your pool. You should balance the pH levels to avoid cloudy water if you have a swimming pool.
Furthermore, the pH level ranges from 1 to 14, and 7 is neutral. The ideal pH level for a swimming pool should be between 7.2 and 7.6.
It will help prevent eye, skin, and other skin conditions caused by high acidity levels in the water.
5. Use Pool Water Clarifier
A clarifier attracts particles to it and then traps them on its surface.
It’s like how the stuff that builds up on your shower head is attracted to it and sticks there — except with a clarifier, it’s millions of tiny particles instead of just one big one.
